- GE Healthcare has launched the Edison Developer Program to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption and impact throughout the healthcare industry.

The program is based on Edison, GE Healthcare’s secure intelligence platform. The program will allow providers to gain easy access to AI solutions by directly integrating these tools into clinical workflows.

The Edison Developer Program will accelerate developers’ ability to build innovations that improve clinical and operational outcomes. The program will build on the existing Edison ecosystem of leading researchers, technology providers, and academic institutions that develop, manage, secure, and distribute AI algorithms to drive real outcomes.

Edison is designed to harness imaging technology data to improve scan consistency, detect and prioritize cases, and extend the lifestyle of devices.

“We introduced Edison just one year ago at RSNA to help health providers take advantage of data in new and significant ways,” said Kieran Murphy, President and CEO, GE Healthcare.

“With the introduction of the Edison Developer Program, and a suite of new intelligent applications and smart devices powered by Edison, we are building on that promise as we continue to work with partners to realize our collective goal of advancing the future of health.”

GE Healthcare is working with a number of AI and analytics innovators to ease the adoption of AI algorithms via Edison. This integration will make it easier for AI and analytics innovators to build, deploy, and distribute their offerings. GE selects and vets all program members based on rigorous clinical and technical evaluations as well as regulatory clearance.

“The opportunities for healthcare with a truly intelligent connected digital enterprise are significant, but no one organization can get there alone. The Edison Developer Program is unique in its deep technology integration and scaling through the workflow, opening the door to faster adoption by health systems,” said Amit Phadnis, Chief Digital Officer, GE Healthcare.

“Bringing together leading technology providers, developers and academic institutions under a single, connected ecosystem will help our customers simplify and optimize data aggregation and orchestration of clinical and operational applications in ways that have the potential to create real impact from the bottom line to better patient outcomes.”

The launch of the new program adds to GE Healthcare’s efforts to accelerate AI adoption in the industry. The company is working with Partners HealthCare to develop and integrate deep learning tools across the entire continuum of care under the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Clinical Data Science.

The collaboration currently includes 15 active projects within areas such as women’s health, cardiology, oncology, hospital operations, and emergency medicine.

GE Healthcare has also collaborated with Intel to integrate software in the Edison platform. This has led to the optimization of Artificial Intelligence Prescription (AIR x), an automated workflow tool designed to accelerate MR brain scanning.

The Edison platform aims to help GE Healthcare and its partners design, manage, and secure applications and AI algorithms quickly. With the launch of the Edison Developer Program, GE Healthcare will further accelerate AI adoption in healthcare to drive better health outcomes at lower costs.
